I did not post a training log last weekend. That is because the week ending June 10 did not include much running. In fact, I only ran a total of 10 miles. Instead of running, I got to travel to Virginia to help my sister- in-law as she started chemo (Frack). So rather than logging miles – I got to travel, read, catch up with my sister and brother in law, and play with my awesome niece and nephew! Woo hoo!
This week, however, I decided to dust of my trainers and get back at it. I started my training both for the Capitol Mile and the Chicago Marathon. I didn’t log huge mileage since I am just starting back up, but it was great to get back into the swing of training! We also held the Hot2Trot 5K and kids’ run in my home town. I was one of the race directors, and it was my first foray into putting on a race. The good news: it was a huge success! We had over 300 5k runners and almost 100 kid runners!
Woot! With that, here is the low down of my week:
Monday is my rest day. I did start back up my arm weights and stretched out my legs though.
Tuesday I started miler training at the track. We ran right around 5 miles. We started with some warm-ups; then ran 3 x 6 minutes at 5k pace (6:39, 6:46; 6:53); 90 second recoveries; then a cool down. My 5K pace is just under a 7 minute mile, but I ran these at a slightly faster pace since technically I SHOULD be able to run faster than that. It was fun to get out there and get some speed on!
Wednesday I ran 4 miles easy (8:49 pace) and did arm weights.
Thursday my legs were still a bit tight from Tuesday night’s track work. I logged 7 miles with 4 striders (8:57).
Friday I had an easy 30 minutes on tap. I was able to get in 3.6 miles (8:48).
Saturday was the Hot2Trot 5K. I ran it with one of my Girls on the Run girls. We ran a 33:56, which was a PR for her. She ran the entire way without stopping too, which was also a personal best for her. I had so much fun and was so proud of her.
Sunday I ran 8.5 miles (8:48). I didn’t get out until 11 am and it was 84 degrees and full sun. Ouch. The highlight was running into some kids near the end of my run – I stopped and shared some peas they had just picked from their garden. Yum!
Total: 31 miles
Next week we’ll bump it up a bit, but this was a nice way to start a new training season.
