This week started out slowly for me, but quickly gained momentum.
Monday was Memorial Day and it was WARM here. I ran 2 super easy miles with my son in the school forest. Wow - that was fun running through the trees and up and down the boys' favorite sledding hill, "Dead Man's Hill." We usually stick to the streets, so it was great to mix it up. When we got back, I was hot and decided to engage in some cooler activities like kayaking! Fun. We also took the kids to the local Brat Fest and rode on all sorts of carnival rides.
Tuesday was back to work, back to reality. I opted to sleep in and continue what I thought would be my last week of post-marathon recovering (slacking). I had lunch with my coach and we set a game plan for the summer/fall. Yay! I can't wait to get started again. But, I am going out of town next week, so the training season is now slated to commence on Monday, June 11.
Wednesday I slept in again. At Girls on the Run that night, however, we played Coach Tag. This meant that as we were running around the track, we had to quickly accelerate to try to catch the girls. Catching 16 girls 5 times each in this manner was not easy. Young girls have a lot of get up and go when they know they are being chased! Nice (and very fun) little speed workout though. :)
Thursday was a rest day.
Friday I finally pulled myself out of bed early to get in 6 easy miles. I was starting to sweat the 5K I was planning to run this weekend. I haven't run fast in a LONG time.
Saturday was awesome! The boys and I ran Race for the Cure. Not sure how, but I managed to pull off a 21:33 and an age group win. That was a pleasant surprise. 21ish 5K is pretty good for me. Given I am pretty out of shape and soft around the edges gives me great hope for the season ahead. I came home and ran another 4 as a cool down on the trail.
Sunday my son and I hit the school forest/prairie again for 2.5 miles. It was really fun! Exploring + running + hanging with my boy = pure awesomeness. I then hit the trail for 6 more miles on my own. Whew - the last coupla miles were HOT though.
Total: 26 miles.
Not a lot, but I regained some running mojo and am really looking forward to starting another training cycle!
