Week 9

Whew. This week had its ups and its downs, but overall, I can't complain.

Last Sunday night after my long run, I met with a woman who is going to help me start another GOTR site in Cottage Grove. Yay! She was spunky and awesome and I am so happy about it. The bad news is that I also got socked with a WICKED migraine. Now, I don't typically get headaches, but I have been lately. Not only does it freak me out, but it is completely debilitating. Sunday night I was in bed by 7:30 pm, but couldn't sleep until after 11 since my head was EXPLODING.

My week in workouts was pretty stellar. I had 1 mile repeats at tempo pace; 6 marathon pace miles, and a long run of 17 miles. Sweet. But headaches plagued me all week. Particularly after hard workouts, but often at random times too. I hope this is a virus or something temporary. I am a big fat baby when it comes to headaches.

We also had some excitement! Some good, some not so good. Wednesday night, Jake and I were in a very near miss accident. We were moving down the highway at 65 mph and a woman pulled out right into oncoming traffic. Fortunately I saw her, slammed on the brakes and *just* missed her. However, the lady in the lane next to me was not so fortunate and SLAMMED into her. Jake was yelling in the back during impact and I just watched as the car next to me started doing a 360. Thank goodness we did not hit her. We stopped and everyone was thankfully okay, but one of the cars started on fire. Crazy stuff.

Thursday night, we took the boys to the Blue Man Group. It was super fun and the boys loved it. Although they have been picking at each other incessantly, which is incredibly annoying. Incredibly.Annoying.

Friday night Jakey had a basketball game. They won big and are still undefeated, which is awesome since their team is comprised of all third graders who played up in a 4th grade league. Jake also scored his first (non free throw) points, so we went and got frozen custard afterward to celebrate.

Saturday I went to the Milwaukee Bucks v. LA Lakers game. It was a work function, but it was fun. We got to play in the box and have a nice time. It was my first NBA game though, and I was shocked, frankly, at all the little contests and side shows. Sheesh - can't people focus through a basketball game without tons of distractions? It was fun to see the Bucks win though.

Today, I played around with Undercover Madison's website. Stay tuned for my creative genius. Or so I like to tell myself after obsessing for hours on this stuff... Seriously.

Last but not least, my numbers:

M: rest

T: 1 hour - 7 miles (8:49 pace) / arms & abs

W: 1:15 with 3 x 1 mile (7:17); .25 recoveries. Warmup = 20 min (8:49 pace); intervals (7:15, 7:16, 7:13); cooldown 26+ minutes (8:41 pace) + 4 striders

R: 1 hour - 6.7 (8:56 pace)

F: 1:10 with 6 at GMP (7:45)

Sa: 45+ minutes (8:45 pace) - crazy windy!

Su: 2:30 - 17+ miles (8:46 pace)

Total: 54.4

Nice week overall. Life is good.

Goals for next week: less headaches. more miles. less calories (I need to jettison 5 lbs). have fun.

Have you talked to a doctor about the headaches? Their frequency is worrying me (on your behalf).

Not yet, but thanks for your concern. I am going to give it a week or two more to see if it goes away. I am thinking it may just be part of a minor head cold or something. I also wonder if it may be my vision. I wear glasses to drive, but not when I run - even though I am looking in the distance. Maybe as my vision is getting crappier, I need to do something when I run as well. ?

I always get migraines after hard workouts/races---every time. If my HR gets in the 180's for a decent amount of time, I'm doomed later in the day. I've always had this. I've talked to a lot of folks who deal with the same thing.

I used to get migraines all the time--crazy often. Tried all kinds of meds, even preventative ones. Once we went vegan, they totally disappeared expect for post crazy hard workout/races and a hormonal one once a months a few days before. I would have never guessed it was related to diet since I always ate very healthy (or so I thought) but the change was crazy dramatic.

Good luck getting it worked out!

Hope the headaches are gone soon and glad you came out unscathed from the highway excitement. Your mileage and regular blotting has brought Mr s deep sense of shame though :)
