2011 Recap

2011 was a pretty good year. I didn't hit any PRs, and my 2 marathons were relatively flat, but I stayed injury free and I had two very strong and enjoyable training seasons. I'll take it. I'll also take a moment to reflect on what happened in 2011 and what I am hoping for in 2012.

Marathons:
May 2011 - Eugene Marathon - 3:39
October 2011 - Grand Rapids Marathon - 3:43

My goal races for 2012 are the Wisconsin Marathon in May and [undecided] for Fall. I have hired a new coach and am switching things up a bit and running faster. Hopefully 2012 will be the year I finally smash that 3:25 marathon goal.

Other:
I participated in my first Tough Mudder. Wow - that was challenging, but very very fun. I don't anticipate doing another one, but it sure was a race I'll never forget.

Girls on the Run:
We had 2 more fabulous seasons of Girls on the Run. In fact, our Fall season sold out and waiting list filled up in just a few days. That is a good sign we are doing something right! In 2011, I was also elected to the board of directors for our local council. In 2012, I want to keep solidifying our program locally, and hopefully expand in the Fall.

Boys on the Run:
My boys ran lots of races in 2o11! They each ran 6-7 5Ks, James ran his first 10K, and they both rocked the Capitol Mile this year. I love that they enjoy races. Goal for 2012 is to get them to actually train once in a while. :)

Vacations and Family:
2011 was the year of fabulous vacations for us! We had never taken a family vacation before without visiting family - other than quick trips for a marathon. This year, we went on our own vacation and travelled for marathons and to see family! Here are some of the places we visited:

  • May 2011 - Eugene, Oregon

  • June 2011 - Wyoming (Grand Tetons and Yellowstone)

  • August 2011 - Washington, DC

  • October 2011 - Grand Rapids, Michigan

  • December 2011 - Orlando, Florida

We had some truly wonderful adventures that I know neither I, nor my DH and kiddos will forget. Some really great experiences. My boys are at such a fun age and we are trying to take advantage of every second. We are already talking about potential trips for 2012 - Jake and I are both vying for Utah!

John and I also celebrated our 12th anniversary. We also started rebuilding some burnt bridges in his family, which was critically important. Johnny is still playing in his band - although my goal for 2012 is to make it out to more shows.

I am truly thankful for such a wonderful year and I look forward to what is ahead in 2012. I also pray for continued health and happiness for my family and friends. Life is so very delicate and things can change at a moment's notice. So my resolution for 2012 is to enjoy every moment - even if it is not perfect.
