Whew. Glad I made it. Seriously. :) Yesterday was a big challenge for me. I was scheduled to do 10-12 with 3x15 minutes at tempo pace with 2 minute recoveries. No problem, right? Well, not exactly. I decided to go to my husband's band gig with my friend on Saturday night since I hadn't gone in so long. We were going to be good and leave by 11 since Sunday was Easter. Well, we were having much too much fun and I didn't get home until 1:30 am. I didn't get to bed until almost 2:30 because I was doing all the "Easter bunny" stuff. Unbelievably enough, the boys were up at 3:30am!! I did not get up at that time, but it still woke me up and it was hard to get good sleep after that.
When I did get up, I was wicked sore! Not sure why - but my R calf and my butt was killing me. Maybe from the dancing? Weird. I also had a nasty sore throat and lost of gunk in my sinuses. Great. I went out for my warmup and almost ditched my workout. I rationalized that I could always get up early and do it Monday morning. It was 70 degrees and crazy windy. 17 mph winds from the south gusting up to 37 mph. Crazy. But I decided I was not going to wimp out. I hit the trail b/c it runs east-west and I felt like that was the most I could possibly do to minimize the winds. It was still really windy, but at least not a straight headwind. When I turned around, the sky was turning kind of black. Sure enough, halfway through my last interval it started lightning, thundering and pouring down rain. The rain actually felt great to cool me down, but the lightning made me a little nervous. Fortunately it never got too bad and I was able to run a little over a mile home to cool down.
I felt so good when I got home. My paces were a little slow, but that did not bother me at all given the heavy winds. It was not easy out there and I felt like I gave it a good effort. Now I am looking forward to cutting back and strengthening up for Boston!
