It never ceases to amaze me

How quickly I can completely lose my fitness. Yes, I realize over the last 8 weeks I have been a slacker. But it is crazy to me how high my heart rate is and how slow my paces are. For example, as I type this, my HR is in the low 70s. "Normally" my resting HR is in the low 60s. At peak training, mid 50s. Yesterday my average HR was 154 and my paces were in the 9:30s/9:40s. At that pace my HR should be in the low 140s, if not 130s. Ack. It is going to be a long, yet much needed 6 weeks of rebuilding. The good news is that I am making friends with early mornings again. The last two mornings have been cold (but not too cold), crisp, and beautiful. I love the solitude and quietness of early morning and empty streets.

Many thanks for all the nice comments on the new training program. I am really looking forward to it as well! Time to get that HR down and drop the 3-4 pounds I put on!

Oh yeah, and the iPod is slowly coming back to life. Yesterday, it played in my car for the first time to and from work. Unfortunately the battery is still not fully charging, but I think (hope) in time it will. I need it to anyway, since treadmill season is creeping up on me!! Fingers crossed!!

I right there with ya! It blows my mind how fast we loose aerobic fitness, it's not fair. I'm hurting on my runs right now, but I know it'll come back quickly when I start pushing myself again. But, darn, I feel so unfit these days!!! I took way longer off than I have in the past and I'm still not really training right now, no real quality or long runs. I know it'll pay off in the end, but it stinks not feeling super fit.

I'm sure my first few races back are going to be killer slow and painful but oh, well.

A humbling process for sure but you'll get back there!
