This post-race slack period for me has been, um, a bit longer and deeper than it probably should have been. And I ended it by not running at all this weekend. I really hoped to log one longish run and one short run to cap out around 35-40 miles, but ended up with only 21. We were crazy busy with family events, finishing the basement and hanging with the boys. Oddly enough, my L hip and L heel were kind of sore today. Weird.
But all good things must come to an end, and my lazy behavior is about to be shown the door. Tomorrow I start my Boston training. I start it with a rest day, but it will start nonetheless. And I am really looking forward to becoming a slave to my new training regimen. :)
Yes, you caught that right. I am trying something new. I am breaking out of my Pfitzinger/Douglas training and trying a new Daniels-based program with a coach (rootsrunner). As much as I love the Pfitz programs and appreciate the fantastic results I have achieved, now is a great time to try something different.
Let the experiment begin!!

I'm so excited you are trying the Daniels stuff. I love it! I will be anxious to hear how you like it.
You must have been talking to Missy and Maria about Lloyd! Missy has gotten awesome results, I'm sure you will too.
Go Mindi!
Sounds good! I'm a big believer in being ever changing in training, just mixing things up a bit. Too many people get trapped into one program, be it Pfitz or Daniels or stuff they make up on their own. If it works, that's awesome but some change is always good to keep improving. If it hasn't been working, then it just blows my mind when people keep doing the same thing over and over.
Pfitz has treated you well, but I bet this shake up will make you even faster! I loved Pfitz pre-coach (medium-long runs mid-week rock for the marathon, I think, and are key), but I like the more Daniel's like approach I have now, more tempo stuff later and a lot of tempo work inside the long runs (even if it hurts like heck!).
Have a great training cycle!
Not running when you're not injured? Blasphemy! Sorry, just jealous...
I think I said this before, but I'm not a Pfitz fan with his tempo early and intervals late plan. Daniels reverses that. I'm of the school that you do race-specific stuff late and for the marathon that's tempo and marathon pace.
Personally, I've come to realize that my losing 10 lbs would do me more good than an a well-designed training plan, so I'm going with the don't-get-injured, get as much aerobic volume as possible (see #1), and don't eat like a pig plan.
Sincerely,
The Injured Curmudgeon
So exciting!!
I agree with Jen about mixing things up from time to time. I think that approach is really important, especially in regards to plateaus and new fitness levels.
Good luck!
cool about the new coach - roots is a great runner, and I'm sure he'll coach you to a great Boston!
So exciting to be a part of Team Roots, together! Looking forward to following your progress to Bean Town. Good luck!
The Daniels plan will produce results and most likely really, really good results for you. It will be interesting to watch your progress.
