Week # 8 in the Books

My week rocked (thank you very much).

First, I had to shuffle things around so that I would not have to try to fit my long run in while in DC. So in the six days from Saturday to Thursday, I logged 75 miles (see last post). So I was really jazzed about that. Second, I had a solid training week, including 18 miles shoved into a very short vacation to DC.

Here is how it panned out:

M: 5.1 recovery (9:45)

T: 15 miles (8:53 - second half faster than first by about 20 secs per mile)

W: 7.1 recovery (9:44)

R: 20 (8:59) - last 5 miles were hard as temps crept up....

F: rest / travel

Sa: 8.7 mile monument run in DC (with lots of stairs)! (8:43) - this run was seriously amazing. I ran up close and personal (without many others around at all) to all the war/presidential monuments and ran along the Potomac for a while. It was gorgeous and a wonderful way to take in that part of DC.

Su: 10 miles (another monument run, but also hit Capitol Hill/Library of Congress/S.Ct. area) (9:02) - and I will readily admit that this run was noticeably harder after a lack of sleep, too much wine, junk food, and really warm/humid conditions.

Total: 65.8

I no doubt walked another 10 miles or so around DC over the weekend! We had a great time.

I am happy to see my paces dropping despite another bump in mileage and continued warm conditions. Hopefully this week will be equally strong. I still need to drop about 5 lbs, but I am starting to feel strong. I am also getting excited because I only have 4 more weeks of heavy training. I am trying to schedule in lots of little races. I have only raced once this summer/season and I really need to get out there to gauge my fitness and work on the mental aspect of racing.

With that said, I am looking at running a 5K this weekend.....
