Deep breaths are good.

Seriously. I was SO excited for this trip to Boston, but in the last couple of days things have unraveled a wee bit more than I was ready for.

I was feeling good (and thankfully still am), but the weather forecast was making me nervous. Winds from the North at 19 mph with gusts up to 38. Um, that is a headwind at worst, nasty side wind at best. Damn.

But that is ok. Really. I can go with the flow and enjoy. I half expected the weather to suck since it is (a) April; (b) New England; and (c) well, I can't forget 2007 that easily! So whatever, I can live with it, adjust my goals.

Yesterday at work was (of course) crazy busy and I scrambled around last night to get packed and ready. The boys were up later than I wanted (9:30), but we were asleep by 11. Unfortunately, Jake was up at 2:00 am with a wicked bad bloody nose. Needless to say, 4:30 am came very quickly after that!

We got to the airport just before 6 and all was going smoothly. Got on the plane, ready to go. Nope. Pilot informs us that some gauge is not working. No one worry, we are going to reboot the plane (seriously?!). Of course, that didn't work. Since it was Saturday, "the" maintenance guy was not working. They were calling him in, but it would be a good half hour. May as well get off and wait as it would be at least an hour. Of course, maintenance guy came, realized he could not fix it, so a new part had to be flown in from Minneapolis. Now I know our airlines are struggling financially, but come on people! No maintenance guy on duty? No parts?

We went to get a new flight (of course by this time we'd never make our connection) and the gate guy assures us we are on X flight, just go to that gate and get ticket. Um, nope, we weren't on that flight. We had to now fly to Minneapolis to Boston rather than Detroit to Providence. No problem right? Wrong. Our car rental I scoured the internet for a 5 day deal for $200 would suddenly be almost $1K if we wanted to do 2 different airports. WTF?

The good news was that by 7 pm, we finally made it to Boston. Of course we had to pay $75 to get a cab to the hotel and now we have no car rental, yet are way out in Waltham. And the kids, after spending the entire day in the airport, were reaching melt down temps. The good news was that our hotel suite rocks (too bad we have no means yet to stock the fridge though). :) We got the boys to bed, but I feel bad given they have done absolutely nothing today other than sit in airports and on airplanes for 14ish hours.

Gah. Let me tell you, when we got here all I wanted was a nice glass of wine (or 4) and hit the hay. But I am being a good athlete, trying to chill and moving on.

So thank you for allowing me to vent. Now that its out, I will regroup and get my head back into the game. Ha. I guarantee you though I am not looking at the weather report again. :) I really have had enough. Maybe if I ignore it all everything will fall into place.

Speaking of which, one hilarious story to share: we were sitting at the Great Dane for lunch (still in the Madison airport) and I was starting to get really irritated by everything. I told John we should just bag this and go home. James said, (very seriously) Mom, look up. I looked up and there was a big skylight right above me. He said, Mom, I think God knows this is going to be a tough one for you and is looking out for you - trying to help you out. Hahaha. James, I sure hope you're right. :)

You got all of the bad stuff out of the way. Only good stuff from here on out! Good luck!!

James is very smart!

NOAA has it as NW (cross/tail) until noon, so just finish fast! Seriously, bummer about the wind. Not sure why it never seems to shift in the right direction.

But, all you can do is run!

I think the weather is really going to be a nonissue. Accuweather always predicts the worst with the wind. Weather Underground just says 13 mph from the NW. More tail then head! This time it will also be warmer, likely sunny and no rain. So buck up, get pumped and have a great time!!! l'll be rooting for you!
