He immediately asked me if I would run with him. Of course. And I am so glad I did. It was a very small race, lots of hills (on which he needed someone to talk to so he didn't notice so much), and very slippery/icy patches in spots. Of course I was secretly happy b/c: (1) I am slow; (2) course is hard; (3) um, wind. We had SUCH a great time. Came in just under 32 minutes. I was very impressed with him as the last 2 5Ks he has done coincided with soccer practice/flag football and he was running like mad. He has been much less active lately, but went out, had a great attitude, and we had so much fun chatting the whole time. Afterwards, I asked him his favorite part. He said, "just doing it. Doing it with you, Mom." Yeah. I felt the same way. We had a great day together. There is much to be said about quality time running with another person. Multiply that by 1000 when it is your kid. :)
When I got home, I did an easy 6 miles. My HR was out of control today. Not sure why other than pure exhaustion. I don't do the best on 6 hours of sleep at night. But all my runs were easy and comfortable. Hopefully tomorrow's long run will be a success.
In the meantime, in a moment of insanity, I registered for Grandma's Marathon in June. I always said I'd never do that. I guess it goes to prove I love to prove myself wrong. :) Unfortunately after I registered, I realized John has a band gig. Damn. They are booked for the whole year. But, I guess if I am going to be crazy, sometimes I must do it solo. I am not a stranger to that either!
We are supposed to get freezing rain tonight. Fingers crossed that we don't. Have a long run and lots of work to do tomorrow. In the interim, having dinner with the fam, putting boys to bed, and going out to hear some live music. All good for the soul. I love work. But I live for the weekend! :)
